The images were processed in the ENVI Classic computer program. A Kuan Filter with default settings was applied to each image to help analyze the oil patches from the lake itself. Density slicing was applied to further highlight the differences in oil and water, as well as any other materials that may have been present during the time the data was acquired. Observations made concerning the processed images were compared against gathered research to determine if the patches noted were indeed oil or look-alikes. Finally, vertical and horizontal profiles were created to graphically represent the differences in oil and water.
